Helsinki Comics Festival is next weekend.
Lotsa comics, art books, artists, discussions, etc. etc.
From the festival website you can download the festival schedules to your iCal from here. Rather advanced thinking on comic festivals behalf. Also the printable schedule is very easy to read. Much appreciated!
Laundry is definitely looking farward to Marko Turunen's retrospective.
See you there!
As those who know something about "meno of the maailma" say: one picture says more than any word ever could...
this is our Laundry Office Xmas Party.... Enjoy!!
Our neighbourhood of Punavuori is known for it's (former) bad reputation as the crime central of Helsinki. And lately of fashion stores, advertising agencies and various "creative industry" players. Many record stores can also be found, especially around Viiskulma:
- Pekka Specialist Eronen's DubJazzSalsa (everybody just calls the shop Eronen) is our, well, dub, jazz, salsa, soul and funk vendor of choice.
- Stupido Records are a little further away on Iso-Roobertinkatu and one of our favourites for everyday alternative pop and rock needs.
- Popparienkeli sells new and used mainstream pop, rock and some jazz/soul/funk/dance.
- Lifesaver specializes in hip-hop and soul/jazz/funk and electronica. DJ's favourite shop.
- A.H. Records (no website) was the reason we wanted to write about the shops anyway. The store sells used vinyl only and has great, eclectic selection of music. One of our guys walked by the store today and found that they have started selling new turntables. What a great idea and (obvious, but deep) insight into what may be the single biggest reason for people not buying vinyl, even if they wanted to: Many people got rid of their good old vinyl players a long time ago and the mainstream electronics stores don't have turntables in their selection.
A bunch of talented and very, very beautiful graphic designers put their heads together with a little help from printinghouse Arazzo and came up with an exhibition called World Expo. World Expo is interior design by peeps who don't know jack about interior design. Exhibition is held in Helsinki, galleria called Myymälä2. It's there until the 7th of July 2007.
Our very own Ossi Pirkonen has also made some skull-inspired stuff for the exhibition. Go check it out!
Forget about SWOTs; according to advertising giant Saatchi&Saatchi, the future belongs to Lovemarks and Love/Respect Axis. The idea itself is timeless, but the website seems to allure pros worldwide. This weeks Lovemarks include DC Shoes and city of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, so how about nominating new Lovemarks with some Scandinavian flavour: i.e. Karhu sneakers and -according to Helsingin Sanomat- "Little Russia" by the Baltic Sea, our city of Helsinki?
